EP of the Day: David Doll, Self-Titled

Perhaps I should have titled this post "Mullet of the Day".

Questionable hair-styling choices aside, David Doll's Self-Titled EP (interestingly, he actually called it "Self Titled", not simply titling it "David Doll"; then again, aren't most discs technically self-titled, since the band usually picks the title? I digress.) was one of the best EPs of 2005, and was also one of the more overlooked EPs of 2005 in the power pop community.

2 of the 4 tracks are particular standouts. "Sleep" was one of the catchier tunes I heard last summer, and "Comeback Special" was right behind it. Popbang radio put it best: "A groovy EP with hints of The Beatles, The Monkees and Squeeze, and if this EP is sign of what is yet to come, we can't wait to hear the full length debut! Plenty of "La La La"'s and harmonies, laced with sugary melodies!"

You can stream all 4 tracks in their entirety here.

Long live the mullet! (Personally, I don't have enough hair to grow one).

Nice call on this excellent EP. Hopefully there is a full-length in the near future.

Another outstanding EP in a similar vein but with a decidedly more Falkner bent is Barry O'brien's Spark e.p. Check it out at NL or CDBaby or iTunes.
